Tim Wakefield to All Star Game
Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield has been named to his first All Star Game and will be in St. Louis tommorrow night for the festivities. I cannot think of a guy that deserves it more considering all that he has done for the Red Sox in his fourteen year career. He got huge postseason wins and was one of the many necessary pieces to the 2004 and 2007 championship teams. Most importantly, Red Sox fans did not make him the next Bill Buckner after game 7 of the 2003 ALCS -a label he thought he was going to have in the hours after the devestating loss. He also came in during crticial innings of the Game 3 ALCS 19-8 loss to protect the bullpen-a move that was critical in keeping it fresh for the forthcoming comeback. Most importantly, he has been a great pillar in the Boston community and a consistent winner even at age 42. I hope he gets to pitch a few innings in the game.
